UNDERSTANDING OF PICTURES AND CINEMA

Directed by professionals in cinema, picture and sound

Directing workshop presented by Pascale Diez cinemater
Directing from age 8 up. Lasts 3 hours. From Monday 10th to Saturday 15th. Reservation necessary
Directing teams will be created to tell a story in six shots, from the same screenplay. A good exercise in understanding point of view.

Workshop of the Absurd: understanding and creating absurd scenes
Directing workshop presented by academic, Rjane Hamus-Valle
all welcome from age 6 up. Lasts 1 1/2 hours. From Monday 10th to Friday 14th. Reservation necessary
How is the absurd born? From the most offbeat to the craziest scenes, the workshop will briefly trace the history of the absurd in cinema, then will invite participants to direct some scenes, inspired, or not, by great absurd moments of cinema history. The absurd is a veritable construction, which leaves nothing to chance the comic effect is sometimes due to the editing, sometimes the framing, the soundtrack or offbeat special effects and very often it is a combination of all of these.

Quiet! Were making noise
Sound effect discovery workshop presented by sound effects man, Alain Platiau and actress Nolle Guichard
all welcome from age 7 up. Lasts 2 hours. From Monday 10th to Friday 14th. Reservation necessary
This workshop gives the participant the opportunity to discover sound effects, thanks to an extraordinary inventory of objects, which, when used in unusual ways, can become instruments of sound creation.

Fishing for sound
Sound directing workshop presented by sound technician Jean-Philippe Le Saint
all welcome from age 8 up. Lasts 1 1/2 hours. From Saturday 8th to Saturday 15th.
Reservation necessary.
The aim of this sound reporting workshop is to go fishing for city sounds, remarks by informed city dwellers, or something completely different. Learn to prepare your subject before recording sound in the real world, then go out and capture part of the universe of sound that surrounds us. All these sounds, once recorded, will be mixed and broadcast during the Festival.

Role play / Funny old plays
Acting workshop presented by director, Jean-Marie Chtelier
all welcome from 7 up. Lasts 1 1/2 hours. From Saturday 8th to Saturday 15th. Reservation necessary.
In cinema, an actor who gets it right on the first take often has to contend with a partner whose acting is only satisfactory after 20 takes. However, we, mere spectators, often cast an irrevocable opinion on this delicate task - so and so is rubbish, or so and so would do better to give up. He cant act to save his life are the kind of damning phrases we have all used at some point.
This workshop is an opportunity with humour and lightness to get under the skin of an actor in front of the camera.

Making of optical toys or the pre-cinema
Workshop presented by the Du Grain Dmoudre association
from age 4 to 7. Lasts 1 1/2 hours. From Monday 10th to Saturday 15th. Reservation necessary
This workshop gives children a chance to discover and make different optical toys, which predated the cinematograph - thaumatropes, zoetropes and praxinoscopes. Children will gain a better understanding of how cinema projection works.

Screenplay reading and writing on the theme of the Absurd
Workshop presented by the Du Grain Dmoudre association and the winners of the screenplay competition
Classes of all ages welcome. Lasts 1 1/2 hours. From Monday 10th to Saturday 15th.
With the help of the screenplay competition winners, we will learn the rules of writing specifically for screenplays. This workshop could be the beginning of an on-going screenplay-writing project, throughout the year on the theme of the Absurd.
