Behind the wheel of his old car, Monsieur Hulot arrives at a peaceful beach resort in Brittany. No sooner has he checked into the Hotel de la Plage, where most of the local holidaymakers are staying, he starts clocking up accidents. For in spite of his good intentions, Monsieur Hulot is hopelessly clumsy and creates unbelievable chaos among the hotel guests, who just came in search of peace and quiet. Only an old English woman, surely a rather doubtful character - seems to appreciate the unusual crackpot.

The Munchkins are dwarfs protected by the Good Witch of the North, but threatened by the Wicked Witch of the West. To find her dog, Dorothy must make off with the Wicked Witchs red shoes and go and see the Wizard of Oz in his Emerald Palace.

After leaving Rajasthan, in North-West India, nearly 1000 years ago, for reasons that have remained unknown, the gypsies have become a wandering people. Their swarm has permeated to just about every corner of the planet, only to meet with hatred and rejection most of the time. During their diaspora, gypsy music has grown richer through contact with Arab influences, in Egypt, with the lyricism of Central Europes violins, or again with Spanish flamenco. Tony Gatlif goes on a long musical journey without dialogues, exploring this peoples extraordinary variety of songs, melodies and dances.
