Screening of : From Gonfreville with love
Filmed postcards on Gonfreville lOrcher by the people of the town, with the help of Christine Bouteiller, filmmaker.
For the first time, the Social Centre A.G.I.E.S. joins with Du Grain Dmoudre Association to propose to the people of Gonfreville lOrcher a filmed postcards workshop and it is the women who have responded to this appeal.
For the first time, Catherine, Christel, Chantal and Lucie used a camera and the shooting equipment to make their own films, films that dream, films that moan, films that thank They are short sequences about them and about their town.
Christel, in the name of the mums of her neighbourhood, rises up against those who have unconsciously put her sons life in danger.
Catherine pays a tribute to a friend who allows her to regularly meet new people and to fully enjoy being with her family.
Lucie salutes the people of the town who have welcomed her so warmly and from whom she feels very close and we quickly understand why.
For her girls, Chantal dreams of an imaginary world that takes place in a supermarket.
Thanks to all of them for allowing us to enter a part of their world, with simplicity and sincerity.

READING OF THE AWARDED SCRIPTS

A scriptwriting competition has been organised this year for primary schools on the theme of fear and for young people from 15 to 25 on the theme of rebellion.
The scripts had to be 3 to 5 pages and had to be written in French or in English.
Sunday, October 10th at 4.30, the Thtre de lImpossible actors will read the awarded scripts, in the presence of their authors.

YOUNG EUROPEANS FORUM
What are the opportunities offered to the young to make films in Europe ?
Saturday 16th at 2pm (admission free)
25 young people from 5 European countries - England, Bulgaria, France, Hungary and Italy - will present the cinematographic production and broadcasting state of their own country and the means given to the young to make their own films; they will also show the pictures they brought with them. This meeting will open on a project they will elaborate together.
They take part in the Festival for the week and prepare the forum and make a filmed travel book they will show at the Forum.
This meeting is organized thanks to the Nisi Masa Association and the European Commission Youth Program (INJEP) supports it.

Saturday 9th at 16.30Cinema stunts! Those words fire you and refer to the image of the hero. This workshop contributes to demystify this image: there is no hero, but professionals who put the techniques they have acquired into practice; there is no room for feat in the cinema because the production insists on security and exactness. The participants would realize by making action scenes that violence on screen is nothing but effects and that, in reality, enemies are their partners in a rigorous and collective work. They will have a different and clearer idea about the films they watch and on the heroes they identify with.
Robert Bnitah who has been a professional stuntman for cinema for many years now will animate the workshop.
EDITING: HOW TO CREATE MEANING

1+1 = 3 In other words, two pictures put together mean something that is not in any of the two pictures but that is created because they meet. Editing, the ultimate operation (or nearly) of a film is a privileged moment for numerous filmmakers, from Eisenstein to Spielberg. To understand how this magic operates and how 1+1 = 3, the workshop will deal with short sequences from classic films but also from personal pictures the participants are going to edit (or put to pieces). Thanks to virtual editing, it is easy to test different possibilities and to see their influence on the final result.
HOW TO CHOOSE A FRAMING animated by Rjane Hamus-Valle
From 9th to 16th in the multimedia library
Where to put the camera? It is a difficult question indeed; the fact is that to stand near actors or 100 meters from them, with the camera on a fixed foot or in movement obviously changes the result and what the spectator feels. Among all the possibilities, the filmmaker is the only one responsible for defining the point of view of a shot. The participants would, in their turn, choose from precise examples where they want to put their camera, or rather the different camera places because they are going to shoot a scene several times, with different framings.
The workshop aims at demonstrating that nothing is pure coincidence and that cutting and editing contribute to the message of the film.
WHEN TV PUTS THE IMAGE OF THE FAMILY TO THE TEST animated par Jean-Marie Chtelier

With a wide range of TV shows extracts, we have decided this year to analyze the image of the family as the different channels present it. If we closely watch the productions that have been broadcasted during the last months, we realize that public and private channels keep on seriously destroying the image of the father, mother and children. Now, they appear as mere pathetic and picturesque caricatures of resigning mothers who are unable to cope with the situation, of absent fathers and of children on the brink of delinquency and psychiatry. It becomes urgent to know which disastrous consequences such programs can have on regular spectators who are not objective enough.
This workshop therefore aims at exploring about 30 flagship programs and at analysing together how we react to those images of destroyed families.

We are all going to the cinema to be flabbergasted by sounds and images. The quality of the soundtrack is essential for the film success. But how do we recreate the sound of a banging door on the screen, giving it a dramatic nature whereas it is not that exceptional? How do we reproduce the sound of a horses gallop without having it in the recording studio?
This playful workshop offers to reveal the secrets of the cinema sound effects by practice.
MAKING-OF OPTICAL TOYS ON THE PRE-CINEMA

This workshop offers to discover and to make different optical toys that have prefigured the cinematograph: thaumatropes, zoo tropes, praxinotropes, Children will be able to understand how cinema projection works.
ARTISTIC AND CULTURAL PROJECT CLASSES with Pascale Diez, cinemastress
GONFREVILLE LORCHER AND BRIGHTON (ENGLAND) SCHOOLS PUPILS
College Gustave Courbets Year 10 of Gonfreville lOrcher and English pupils from Longhill High School in Brighton wrote and shot a film in September on the theme of rebellion.
Each group received a filmmakers help. Jean-Marie Chtelier has helped Gonfreville lOrchers pupils and Swann Dubus Brightons pupils.
They take part in the Festival where they are going to edit their film with the help of Swann Dubus. This film will be presented during the festival closing night,Saturday 16th at 9pm.

Each youngster has depicted his vision and his photographic representation of rebellion and has associated it with words or a short text.
It is a personal and individual approach: for some of them, words are part of the image but for some others it is action, setting, challenges that are important.
